Last Christmas I purchased a Nikon DSLR for myself (merry Christmas to Eric). I was always a big fan of my Nikon point-n-click so I went with the Nikon when I upgraded.  Obviously going from a small consumer minded camera to a larger more fuller featured one, comes a bunch of features you have no idea how to use.

Well I got introduced to Windows Live Photo Gallery when I started testing Live spaces as a online photo repository. I had my own, on my own software but since I was hosting the files on my server, I noticed my storage going quickly (my dslr shoots 8 meg files). I digress.  I started using the feature on my camera for panoramic shots, basically a quick succession of shots as you pan. Sometimes more than 150 (to reduce blur). I have to say Live Photo Gallery is the best panoramic stitches I've EVER used. Its insanely easy to use. Literally you just select the pictures you want to stitch. You don’t even have to have them in order, it does all the work. The concept is it overlaps and reads into where the frame was the moment you took it then a moment after once you've moved and merges them. Pretty sweet.

Secondly and almost as useful for someone like me who literally has red eye in every single picture is the red eye reduction. Again, its so simple a 5 year old figured it out. (Seriously) You merely place a square over the eye you want to fix and it just fixes it. Now granted, you probably wouldn’t use this method on a super high resolution of a face as it just fills in the area with a darker color relative to the surrounding colors, but still does the job well and fast.

And without (it took me longer to type this sentence than to fix the red eye)

Oh yeah, and its a great picture browsing tool and indexer. Check it out.
